Who would have predicted the events in 2020 that have affected everyone in the world?!
Referring to my notes in 2019 the item on our horizon was Brexit whilst COVID 19 was a virus in China that was not going to affect the UK – an isolated island!
How different the world and the UK is today with words like “furlough” and “tiers” now the norm. Whilst Brexit remains deal or no deal.
At Thompson Balch, we have had a few changes too with Rachel and Kerry moving on and Liz and Brandon joining the team – both have been very supportive in this year of ever-challenging events.
Jodie who has been on maternity leave since February gave birth to Zak just before lockdown one.
Exam success has been curtailed due to the virus and exam sittings being postponed, however, in the latter months of the year both Henri and Brandon were able to sit and await exam results – Henri his Chartered Tax and Brandon his first AAT level 4 exam – whilst Elliot continues to make progress through level 3 of his AAT course.
We again are only a few weeks away from tax return deadline day – my own thoughts are that this will not be extended even with the expected changing tiers of lockdown areas – but as with most Government announcements we urge our clients to refer to the HMRC website for clear guidance.
As the world awaits the vaccine distribution 2021 remains uncertain for many and here at Thompson Balch we aim to continue supporting our clients in the best way we can and continue to offer “professional advice with a personal approach”.
Our office will be closed on Wednesday at 4pm and between Christmas and the New Year – back on the 4th January 2021.
It only remains for us all at Thompson Balch to thank all our clients and wish you all a safe Christmas – we look forward to seeing you all in 2021.
